An Inside Look at Macy’s Internal Employee Influencer Program

October 30, 2018

Earlier this year Macy’s came up with a crazy idea – let’s utilize our own employees as influencers to help promote our brand and products. And what was a test of 20 employees “ambassadors” has turned into a full fledged influencer network with over 300 employees.

In a perfect world it makes sense – the people who work for a company should be that companies loudest cheerleaders.

“We see this as developing a relationship with our employees,” an anonymous Macy’s exec said. “This gives them an incentive to be proud of Macy’s, to make some money and to come to work more energized each day.”

Most employees who are apart of the #macysstylecrew have less than 10,000 followers but, what they lack in reach, they make up for in loyalty – with friends and family paying more attention to their posts.

Style Crew influencers also get their own page on the Macy’s website to upload videos, showcase products and collect commissions for anything sold through their unique codes. Check out Jamila Jones’ page right here

Macy’s still includes outside influencers within their overall marketing strategy but empowering employees to authentically promote your brand and products is a homerun idea.

Are you and the people you work with the most energized promoters of the company brand? Time to check in.
